If you’re planning a cruise in the near future, then this list was made just for you. Compiled a list of the ten most important things you should know before you head off on your first cruise.
1. If you have not booked your cruise yet, it is highly recommended to do your homework on cruise lines as well as cruise routes online before you just go and book the first one you see. You wouldn’t believe how much you could save if you booked your trip one week later or through another cruise line.
2. If you are on a budget do not get off the ship. When you visit ports you will have the option to go explore, this can be costly as you may find souvenirs and other excursions to go on, both of which can cost you highly if not careful.
3. Check and recheck to be sure you have all your important documents, passports, travel insurance, etc.. There is nothing worse than being ready to board only to find you left your passport or ID at home!
4. Check with the cruise line and get a list of items that are and are not allowed aboard the cruise, with all the recent terrorist attacks cruises and planes have gotten stricter so be sure you are not violating any rules or laws.
5. Be careful about the time you spend in the sun, while the pool and deck games can be great fun and help with relaxation you still need to be aware of the sun you are getting, always pack sunscreen and apply often to keep your skin protected.
6. Know what is included in your all-inclusive package. Some packages include unlimited food and drinks while others do not. Be sure to know exactly what is covered in your package so you are not hit with a giant bill at the end of your trip.
7. Don’t forget your camera; there will be many beautiful sights to see so be sure to pack your camera on your first cruise.
8. While we are talking about expensive items be sure you have some way to secure your expensive items to protect them from being stolen.
9. Take advantage of the free entertainment. This one can go along with watch out for off ship activities but many on ship activities can cost extra as well. If you are on a budget you will want to be weary on these ventures.
10. Relax and have fun, probably one of the most important pieces of advice out there. Leave your worries on the ramp to the ship and don’t think about them until you return. Enjoy your time out to sea. Kick back, relax and appreciate the simplicity of it all, or the luxury of it all, depending on how you look at it.
